Soul & Smoke is a collection of restaurants located in Evanston and Rockwell on the River, a food truck, a residency at Time Out Market, and an expanding retail product line that serves Chicago-leaning barbecue fare rooted in comfort. Drawing inspiration from his childhood in the southside of Chicago and cooking dinners with his grandmother, executive chef D’Andre Carter has stacked Soul & Smoke’s menu with comfort food classics. The Black-owned and women-led team’s success goes directly back into their local communities through their in-house meal program and partnerships with organizations such as World Central Kitchen and The Trotter Project.
